INTRODUCTION

ARSUTORIA will bring three senior footwear professionals to the course:

  • Paolo Marenghi is the senior instructor at ARSUTORIA and the leader of the course. Paolo is an expert pattern engineer who has worked at factories and design studios in Italy and abroad. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable, he will cover all basic training subjects and pattern making module and will team up with the mold engineer and costing and sourcing expert.
  • Andrea Montagna of Apego is an Italian mold engineer. He has been the Technical Manager of Apego for the past 15 years. He is THE mold maker, benefiting from the experience, knowledge and technical know-how acquired throughout  over 50 years in the footwear and plastic industry that his family business have developed. Andrea is our industry partner and will manage the molding module and will be open to share experience and answer questions during the basic training when related to his field of expertise
  • Roberto Grasso has been in the shoe industry for over 4 decades. Roberto spent the first eight years of his career working in a shoe factory learning all phases of shoe making. After manufacturing, he went on to work in various areas of the shoe business including production scheduling, engineering, purchasing, merchandising, etc. Roberto was one of the first people to pioneer overseas sourcing as early as the late 70’s for The Stride Rite Corp. He continued to expand his sourcing knowledge and experience at various brands including The Rockport Company, Clarks, and eventually circling back to the newly formed Rockport Group. Roberto specializes in developing global sourcing strategies with an emphasis on cost-reduction and supply chain management.
Course breakdown This class is a full 5 day training session. First three days are dedicated to Footwear Fundamentals with last two days focused on the Awareness of Value: Costing. Complimentary, unique and invaluable tools and devices will be given to attendees to take away for future personal use in addition to a USB pen drive with information on all topics addressed. Course Objectives Obtain a greater understanding of the processes of production of different types of shoe constructions and deeper knowledge of the materials used in each stage of the process. Come away with a better understanding of the characteristics of upper/middle and bottom components and different chemical materials used for molded outsoles, their differences, advantages and disadvantages. Offer the opportunity to refocus the experience and progress in a job that requires the ability to thoroughly analyze the product and interact with professional engineers from overseas manufacturing sample rooms and factories   Pre-requisites Attendees should have at least two/three years industry experience prior to attending our class OR take previously our 10 hour e-learning course which will prepare them to understand better the topics that will be addressed. This unique on-line course will be offered complimentary to those who sign up for the class   Examples of companies that sent their employees to this class: Timberland, Converse, Clarks NA, Deckers, Genesco, Dr Martens and New Balance. Companies from safety and military footwear industry also benefited from this training.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Two Ten Foundation offers a full scholarship valued $ 2,500 to ARSUTORIA 5 day course that will take place at The Forefront Conference Center in Waltham, Boston on September 11thth - 15th, 2017

Deadline for submitting applications is June 30th, 2017. Final decision of the recipient of the scholarship will be communicated afterwards RULES:
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens residing in the United States
  • Applicants must have at least 2/3 years of industry experience
  • If applicant is presently unemployed and is unable to send the employer/company's information (part 2 of the application) he/she must submit two reference letters on a company letter heading from someone from the footwear industry that can vouch knowing the candidate well and that he or she is worthy of being the recipient of this award
  • Scholarship opportunity is extended to: independents, companies who are presently not financially in the position to offer their employee this leaning opportunity, unemployed footwear professionals with the requested past industry experience.
